High Heels in the Chicken Coop

For our 8th Anniversary, in August of 2011, my husband got me a duck. The first animal for our little farm. The Grand Poo-Bah of all our yet to come farm animals. He’ll be the one in charge of all the others. We named him MorDuck! My boss is a woman who likes her jewelry, and she was very concerned thinking I would be horrified or perhaps just very sad at this gift. I was Delighted. I’ve always wanted a Duck!

That same day, we went and picked up the six chickens and rooster my in-laws had been keeping for us until we could get our coop organized. At the time, I still didn’t have any farm shoes. I’ve been working in town this whole time, and it was summer. I had flip flops and such. My first few days of feeding chickens and changing their water was done in high-heeled Bebe Sport sandals. Truly – it may take me a minute to get accustomed to this country living. Although, I’ve loved the views since Day One. I’ll have to post some pictures of our regularly occurring 360 Degree sunsets! And now I’m off to work!

  1. Oh, how fun! A fellow glammy kinda girl on the farm! I’m going right now to check out what you write about. Looking forward to swapping some fun stories!

  2. Girl, I will be following you. I am in the same boat and have also worn high heels in the chicken coop! I am a glammy kinda girl, moved to the country May of 2010 with a husband with farm dreams. We have already been through chickens, rabbits, and goats (all of which I had to banish in the end… sigh, a story for another day) and now have horses, sheep, worms, mushrooms, bees, dogs & cats. My husband would love to have a self-sustaining farm. I would love to go to the spa. I look forward to your posts!
