down our spines
in all their grotesque glory.
They can appeal to our dark side,
our burning desire
for Dracula’s romance and black lace.
Or as they sit covered in snow,
we sip our coffee
and shiver with them.

Thank you for the wonderful prompt. It’s been a while since I participated in the dVerse Poets Pub. It’s fun to see the other writers and their interpretations. We recently had to shut down our monthly Slam Poetry Group. We used to have a thriving community, but a key member passed away and then COVID struck. It just hasn’t been able to get back up and running. But I encouraged anyone with a blog or website of their writing to go check out dVerse. We’ll see if we get some Southern Oregon new folks!

Thank you, Ben. My husband is definitely more dark than I am – and loves gargoyles everywhere. I’m more spiritual and tender-hearted as a poet. I found this plaque for our front door with a totally gnarly gargoyle with wings spread and face twisted into a totally sinister look that said, “God bless this house as much as possible.” It was perfect for our opposites attract!
Not sure where I saw them recently but there were a series of gargoyle images where the water had frozen as it was coming out of their mouths. Brrrrrrrrr!
This was our front porch gargoyle after the biggest storm in 30 years here in Southern Oregon. I think he had 12-14 inches piled up on his head.
