Imagining Pictures in the Clouds

My boys and I see pictures in the sky. We see big, bold, ridiculous, pictures sometimes, and we laugh and point. This is beginner imagination building that we have been doing since they were tiny. Now, they can create a story out of thin air. (The picture here looks a little like Olive Oil, from the Popeye cartoons, doesn’t it?)

Some of my favorite spottings include:

  • A cartoon skeleton waiter, running with a tray of food and wearing oversized boots,
  • A Harley Davidson motorcycle that took up the whole sky,
  • A rubber ducky with huge, crazy, poodle hair that was covering its eyes – we couldn’t stop laughing,
  • A slam poet / bullfighter – it was clear that someone was on stage, dodging and scraping and wrestling words, and winning.

We live in the country, and we have endless skies. But even when we lived in town, and long ago, when I lived in a city, it was always important to seek out a spot of sky to gaze upon, and soften my heart, and stop my worrying for a moment, and look for a story in the clouds!
